The aim of this 2-day course is to provide a basic understanding of pumps and pumping. The course will provide those working in or with the water industry the opportunity to gain an understanding of the many concepts and processes involved in the treatment of municipal wastewater.
The interactive course comprises eight 75-minute modules run over two days. The training course is set up as a face-to-face event to allow group interaction, as well as allowing discussion and a Q&A with the lecturer.
The concepts of pumps and pumping will be discussed, including the topics:
- Properties of fluids
- Pipe flow fundamentals
- Pump types
- Classification and construction
- Pump curves
- System curves
- Matching the pump to the system
- Series parallel and variable speed pumping
- Hydraulic gradients
- Sump design and cavitation
- Hydraulic surge
- Pump layout and installation
Objectives and benefits:
- Understand how fluid properties affect pump selection and performance.
- Become familiar with the characteristics of Centrifugal and Positive Displacement pumps and how to get the best out of them.
- Learn how to design pumping systems and produce system curves.
- Understand the interaction between pump and system including sump design and cavitation.
- Understand how to design series, parallel and variable speed installations.
Course programme:
- The course will be presented in eight live face-to-face 75-minute sessions, spread over two days.
- The live sessions will include presentations and audio-visual demonstrations.
- Delegates will be able to have verbal exchanges with the lecturer in a face-to-face training environment.
- A printed copy of the presentation material will be provided on the day to enable notes to be taken more efficiently during the course.
Who should attend:
- Professionals from a wide range of disciplines including recent graduates, as well as those who are new to the water industry.
- Anyone working in the water industry who requires an understanding of pumps and pumping systems.
- No prior knowledge will be assumed.
